Architecting on AWS

Architecting Day 1

Morning

  • 35 minutes

  • By the end of this module, students will be able to summarize AWS services, AWS Architecture, and tools for identifying best practices. This module takes 45 minutes to complete.

  • 10 Minutes

  • This section provides an overview of this course's first lab. This lab follows the module on Architecting Fundamentals and orients learners to the different methods for interacting with AWS. In this lab, students practice using other ways of interacting with the AWS API to create and interact with an Amazon S3 bucket. This lab takes 45 minutes to complete.

  • In this module, students will examine enforcing account security using Identity and Access Management (IAM), users, groups, roles, and policies. This module takes 65 minutes to complete.

  • 60 Minutes

Afternoon

  • By the end of this module, students will be able to identify the elements that build an elastic, secure virtual network that includes private, public, and protected subnets. They will also determine strategies for a layered security approach to virtual private cloud (VPC) subnets. This module takes 65 minutes to complete.

  • 10 Minutes

  • By the end of this module, students will be able to identify strategies for selecting compute resources based on business use cases. This module takes 75 minutes to complete.

  • In this lab, students practice building a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) and adding an Amazon EC2 instance. This module takes 45 minutes to complete.

Architecting Day 2

Morning

  • 20 Minutes

  • In this module, students will compare and contrast AWS Storage products and services based on business use cases. Students also examine how to enforce account security using policies. This module takes 70 minutes to complete.

  • 10 Minutes

  • In this module you will compare and contrast the different types of databases, based on business needs. This module takes 70 minutes to complete.

  • 10 minutes

  • In this lab, students practice installing an Amazon RDS database instance and an Application Load Balancer into an existing VPC using the AWS Management Console. This lab takes 30 minutes to complete.

  • 60 Minutes

Afternoon

  • In this module, students will explore AWS monitoring products and solutions. Students will also identify the role of monitoring and events to inform load balancing and auto-scaling actions based on usage and needs. This module takes 70 minutes to complete.

  • 10 Minutes

  • In this lab, students practice building a highly available, auto-scaling database layer in a lab environment. This module takes 30 minutes to complete.

  • In this module, students discuss the benefits of microservices as an effective decoupling strategy to power highly available applications at scale. You will also explore AWS container services to rapidly implement an infrastructure-agnostic, portable application environment. Students also compare and select compute solutions based on business use cases. This module takes 40 minutes to complete.

Architecting Day 3

Morning

  • 20 Minutes

  • In this module, students will examine how to enforce account security using policies. Based on use cases, they will also discuss network peering, VPC endpoints, gateway, and routing solutions. Students will also discuss hybrid networking configurations to extend and secure their infrastructure. This module takes 60 minutes to complete.
